"He's more machine now than Lamb. Twisted & evil"

Another picture from many a year ago. Specifically the month of October in the year 2000 and diggity twelve.  The brief was to draw a girl and a robot.  Result was this pic inspired by the old New Zealand country school tradition of Lamb and Calf day.  For overseas people (or townies) who have no idea what I talking about, this event involves kids entering their pet lambs and calves in a contest which I suppose could be described as a rustic Crufts dog show for sheep and cattle.

And before you ask, the answer is no - there is no swimsuit section.

"The Night of the Living Don Quixote"

Started this picture of Don Quixote fighting the windmill giants ages ago.  Semi finished it but never really liked it. In fact it made me feel ill to stomach to think I had created such an abomination to nature. So I whacked it over the back of the head with a mouse pointer and buried it in a shallow unmarked folder deep in the forest of my unwanted computer files.
A year or so passed. Felt like wandering around my computer file system to visit old haunts and eventually wandered into the forest. Came across the place where I buried the abomination of Don Quixote.  Remembered what I did and felt the pangs of guilt. Just happened to have a spade with me so I dug it up ,washed the mud off and took it back to my Photoshop cottage. Then over the period of a few nights and a day or so, I Frankensteined the picture back together in a totally different way. And now here it is: stuck out on the blog front porch to scare dogs and wandering hobos.
Not so hating of it any more. Might take a trip back out to that forest someday to see what other corpses I can reanimate.

Another quick pic done in an attempt to keep my distracted artistic brain focused. Unfortunately, for a half hour or so, all my focus was focusing on this pic instead of what it should have been focused on.  

By the way, forgot to post this one I did ages ago. Guess the plus side of my short attention span is I've only got one more picture to do to complete the set.

Wookiepedia

Why did I use "Wookiepedia" as a title for this post? No deep reason. Just couldn't think of any other Chewbacca pun to use. (Well, it was either that or "Chewie the Han that feeds you" which is a bit too pun-desperate sounding.)

Scribblin' - Oct 2013

Every so often, work hurts my puny brain and the urge to do something relaxing kicks in.  So usually, I grab a scrap bit of paper and draw random stuff.  (Yeah.  No need to point out the obvious fact that my work involves drawing and I'm basically working to relax.  Isn't irony oh so amusing?) 
These were October's brain farts.  If you know what any of these things have in common, please tell me.  I don't want to be the last one to find out I've predicted the apocalypse by accident.

Me?  I felt compelled to draw an inbred Minotaur.

2013 Overseas Trip Characters: Irish Cat-man

After 15 years working at Weta and because of various other stressful leftovers from 2012, I was feeling a bit wiped out and decided I might need a bit of a holiday.  So in August, after meeting up with my sister and niece in Dubai, we all went touristy around parts of England and Ireland. For the entire month long trip, I intentionally didn't pick up a pencil (which for me is basically the brain equivalent of cntl-alt-delete). However, my camera was never out of reach which resulted in an 8 gig and a 16 gig memory card being filled with all sorts of random snapshots from the trip. Some of the people we encountered were so extreme, I really wanted to get a photo of them so I'd have enough reference to do a caricatured portrait when I got home.  This was one such case.

This man and cat were sitting outside an Irish pub we popped into for a quick road break.  He was trying his hardest to look like he didn't care about the feline but the cat wouldn't have any of it and pestered the man until it got some attention.

Despite all the promises and threats from many years past, you may have noticed I haven't put anything on this blog for a long, LONG time.  But trust me. I have a really good reason. (And it has absolutely nothing to do with being a lazy ass who never completes anything he starts. Neither is it due to being a totally insecure delusional paranoid who dreads showing his artwork to anyone besides the bits and bytes that make up his personal drawings folder on his computer.)

But as the old saying goes, "That's all Cryptosporidiosis Ridden water under the bridge".  Time has come to turn over a new leaf and actually post something new.  Hence this pic of young John Hurt.  Why John Hurt? Well...that's for you to ask and for me to respond with "dunno".

So THIS is what the jerk has been doing.

Well, it's been officially announced now so I guess I can splurge to the world what has taken me away from doing stuff for this blog.

I've been putting together a book of the art for the upcoming Steve Spielberg movie version of "Tintin".
In it you'll find pieces of art from some of your favourite Weta Workshop artists. Including Frank Victoria, Rebekah Holguin, Rob Baldwin, Christian Pearce, Greg Broadmore, Adam Anderson, Matty Rodgers, Tim Gibson, Paul Tobin, Daniel Falconer, Stephen Crowe and Gus Hunter. Also they are pieces from your favourite Weta Digital artists including Michael Pangrazio and Ravi Bansal. Unfortunately there are also a few scribblings from your least favourite Weta Workshop artist in there too but don't worry. I printed my paintings on cork which can be used as a dartboard if the reader needs to hone their dart throwing skills.

Sketchy Sketches

Whoo boy! Been busy this year.
Too busy to chuck anything on this blog despite all my half-assed promises. Understandable I suppose considering I'm working on ***TOP SECRET***. Especially the section where ***CLASSIFIED*** kicks ***CLASSIFIED*** in his ***CLASSIFIED*** with a pair of size 10 ***CLASSIFIED***. (Man! I'm glad I've got that off my chest. It's so hard to keep a secret)

Anyways, what I've posted here is the scrap of paper I have sitting next to me when I work. Whenever I need to clear my head or give my A.D.D. freedom for a few moments, I type a random famous person's name on the 'puter and sketch a photo that comes up on Google. Only spend about 5 to 10 mins on each one but it's enough to placate my restless ways so I can get back to work.

In other words, I've just posted brain farts. Hope you enjoy the smell of rotten eggs.
